49 Leyteños seek for post in 2019 elections, Comelec reveals

LEYTE – The Commision on Elections (Comelec) in the province of Leyte announced that a total of forty (40) personalities in the whole province filed a Certificate of Candidacy (COC) within the whole filing duration which started on October 11 and was officially closed at 5:31 in the afternoon of October 17.

Among the political parties, PDP-Laban has the most number of candidates for the upcoming elections.

Three individuals will be running for governor in the upcoming elections while fifteen aspirants are seeking for a congressional post and twenty-one for board member all over the five districts of Leyte. Meanwhile, incumbent vice-governor Carlo Loreto is uncompeted for the same post.

According to the Leyte provincial Comelec, most of the COC applicants this year belongs to prominent families in the province such as the Petillas, Romualdez, Codillas and Velosos.

The 2019 national and local elections will be held on May 13, the second Monday of the month, as mandated by RA 71622.
