UPV Tacloban grads want resumption of GPH-NDF peace talks, end to neoliberal education

Graduates of the University of the Philippines Visayas Tacloban College (UPVTC) staged a protest rally in the middle of the graduation rites today at the Arts and Sciences (AS) grounds of the campus. Protesting graduates from different corners unexpectedly rushed to the stage after the singing of the “UP Naming Mahal.”

The UP administration cut off the microphone of Kristine Ann Robles of PULSO Han Mag-aaram while the graduates continued chanting. The graduates’ battlecry highlighted the resumption of peace talks between the Government of the Philippines (GPH) and the Communist Party of the Philippines—New People’s Army—National Democratic Front (CPP-NPA-NDF), release of political prisoners, junking of the Socialized Tuition System (STS), junking of the K-12 program, and justice for fellow UP student Kristel Tejada.
