The Department of Environment and Natural Resources issued over 7,000 land titles to qualified beneficiaries in the Eastern Visayas region under the Residential Free Patent Act and Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program in the year 2016.
Data from the DENR regional office showed that 5, 705 residential free patents covering an aggregate area of 91.53 were distributed to beneficiaries throughout the region in the previous year. The office also shared that a total of 48,065 residential free patents were distributed by the DENR all over the country.
DENR Regional Director Leonardo Sibbaluca said that the massive distribution of free patents is due to the mandate of Republic Act 10023 or the Residential Free Patent Act. The law aims to ease the requirements and procedures in the titling of residential lands. It also legalizes the citizens’ rights over a parcel of land actually possessed or positioned for at least 10 years.
Aside from the residential free patents, The DENR’s office in the region also distributed 1,888 agricultural patents in 2016 covering an aggregate area of 1, 484 hectares. The issuance of agricultural patents was done under the Comprehensive Agrarian Reform Program.
Director Sibbaluca said that the issuance of free patents is part of the government’s program of poverty reduction productivity optimization to the people of Eastern Visayas. The Director also urged land claimants to file their applications for land titles at any DENR office.
